East Midlands Megagames started with friends in Nottingham who wanted to bring megagames a bit closer to home. This isn’t our day job (we don’t take a salary from it, just aim to cover costs), but it is a hobby we love.
There was a gap in megagame groups in the Midlands, so getting to one always meant a bit of a journey. This wasn’t our only motivator to found EMM though; we believe that megagames should be accessible to all, diverse, and most importantly, fun.
EMM aims to do the following:
Ensure our venues are accessible to attendees.
Host them in central locations, with lots of transport options.
Focus on key details, like the feel of game components, the layout of game handbooks, and the all important post-game venue for a social (where the real debrief happens).
Aim to compensate people for their services, whether it’s someone doing graphic design, or facilitating a game. We aren’t here to make a profit, as East Midlands Megagames is a registered Community Interest Company, but that doesn’t mean that others shouldn’t be reimbursed somehow for their efforts.
We want to make sure that players walk away from our games buzzing with excitement, and enthusiastic to get to another game. Whether that’s here with us, or with one of the other megagame groups across the country, we just want to make sure they’ve had a good time.
We love this hobby and we want to see it grow and flourish - and we’d love for you to be a part of that, so if you want to design a game, facilitate one with us, or have some cool skills that would help - get in touch!
